About the Couple

Jeff and Joy in Boracay. July 2011.
Jeff and Joy met on the microblogging site, Twitter. Yes, Twitter. Jeff says he’s the one who followed Joy first, because she’s pretty. Joy followed back because that’s how it goes on Twitter — someone follows and you follow back. The first conversation they had as far as they can remember was about Joy’s plan for hey 26th birthday. She said she wanted to have a children’s party (which she did for Jeff’s 26th birthday). The conversations lasted for a week or so before they started chatting on YM, texting and talking on the phone.
A few weeks later, Jeff invited Joy to see his Lego exhibit in Megamall. Joy agreed but it didn’t happen. Instead, they went out on their first date. They met at Starbucks Araneta and Jeff took Joy to a burger joint in Katipunan. After that, he took her to his alma mater, Ateneo. They stayed for a while before going to Eastwood to find Joy’s costume for the coming Halloween. Jeff finally drove her to the nearest train station where Joy took an FX going home.
This first date was never the last. There was a second date in Banchetto. And a third date where they finally saw Jeff’s Lego collection in Megamall. Jeff took Joy to the Purefoods vs. Ginebra game (where Purefoods lost miserably) before taking her to Dampa in Farmers Market Cubao. He shelled prawns for her. And he had a bouquet of roses at the back of his car. That was October 24, 2010, the day they officially became a couple.
Fastforward to April 1, 2011. Joy thought of doing this April Fool’s prank where they change their relationship status to single. Jeff didn’t want to so he suggested they just post engaged. And this was what happened
Jeff had 119 likes and 88 comments.
Joy panicked and asked Jeff how will they tell their family and friends that it’s just an April Fool’s prank. He said they didn’t have to. Joy joked about the ring, and he MMSed this
Joy’s first engagement ring.
And that was their engagement story. NOT. Jeff took Joy to Adarna Food and Culture and formally asked her to be his wife. Jeff calls the first ring as the ‘downpayment ring’. Three weeks later, they went to Casa Ibiza in Antipolo where he slipped a 0.5 carat diamond ring on Joy’s finger while she was busy staring at nothing. Very romantic. Haha!
The rings.
Jeff’s family did the traditional pamanhikan two months after the engagement, on Joy’s parent’s 28th year anniversary.
This blog will chronicle their wedding preparations before the big day in April 20, 2011. And who knows, maybe chronicle their life after the wedding.
